Kabarak University and Indiana University Deepen Ties in Public Health Collaboration

In a significant step toward strengthening global academic and research partnerships, Kabarak University today hosted a high-level meeting at its main campus, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Kiplangat. The meeting brought together faculty from Kabarak’s School of Medicine and Health Sciences, particularly the Department of Public Health, and a delegation from Indiana University’s School of Public Health to explore new strategies for expanding their long-standing collaboration in public health.

The Indiana University team was led by Prof. Priscila Barnes and Prof. Jerono. In attendance from Kabarak was Prof. Pamela Kimeto, Dean of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, who praised the engagement as both meaningful and promising. She emphasized its potential to spark impactful research and training initiatives that can improve public health outcomes, especially in underserved communities.

The meeting opened with a warm welcome to the Indiana University delegation and reaffirmed the shared vision of both institutions: to address pressing health challenges through community-centered partnerships and academic exchange. Prof. Kiplangat stressed the importance of promoting collaborations that are grounded in a deep commitment to making a transformative impact where it's needed most.

Central to the discussion was a renewed focus on improving community health, with plans to expand their partnership in key areas such as:

  • Community-based health innovations
  • Access to and quality of primary healthcare
  • Maternal and child health
  • Prevention and management of non-communicable diseases

Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to activating their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) through well-defined research initiatives and ongoing community health engagement and capacity-building projects.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Kiplangat highlighted Kabarak University’s foundational ethos:

"As members of the Kabarak family, we strive at all times to set apart in our hearts, Jesus as Lord" (1 Peter 3:15).

This, he said, reflects the university’s unwavering commitment to moral and ethical values, even as the teams prepare to embark on a three-day community outreach initiative across Baringo, Nakuru, and Kericho counties.
