The Kabarak University Students Organization (KUSO), in collaboration with the Counseling Section, organized a vibrant and impactful Mental Health Awareness Week. The event ran from 3rd to 5th June 2025 and was held simultaneously at both the Main Campus and Nakuru City Campus.
The objective of the week was to raise awareness among students and staff on a wide range of mental health issues, including common disorders such as depression and anxiety, experiences of trauma, and to highlight the available support systems within the University.
At Nakuru City Campus and KABU TVET Institute, KUSO leaders and peer counselors, with the support of the campus counselor, worked collaboratively to ensure the initiative was impactful. On Tuesday, peer counselors conducted outreach activities through the establishment of information desks and moved across various locations on campus to ensure that as many students as possible received relevant and timely mental health information.
On the second day, the team carried out class outreach sessions at both Nakuru City Campus and KABUTVET classes. This was followed by a campus-wide clean-up exercise, which instilled a spirit of commitment and responsibility among students while promoting the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
The final day concluded on a high note. During the Chapel Service, the energetic team presented a moving skit titled “Growing Through the Struggles.” The performance emphasized themes of resilience, the power of community support, and choosing to grow through trauma rather than be defined by it.
As the day came to a close, students from Nakuru City Campus and KABUTVET Institute joined their counterparts at the Main Campus for a special Mental Health Talk, culminating the week with shared reflections and strengthened support networks.
We sincerely thank the Vice-Chancellor and members of The University Management Board (UMB) for their unwavering support in promoting mental wellness within our University community.
