I was honoured to inaugurate this year’s Avid Readers’ Forum conversations as the Lead Reader, on a theme dear to my African Feminisms scholarship. Before diving into my reflections on the conversation, it is instructive to appreciate that African Feminisms is an active epistemic struggle and its battleground is in the everyday. Recent incidents of intentional killing of women, femicide, draw me to Toni Morrison’s concept of re-memory, a personal or collective familiar or unfamiliar traumatic memory,^[ii] to imprint in our minds that these manifestations of gendered violence run through space and time. There is also Amina Mama’s acknowledgement of the ‘hidden struggle’ against gender-based violence, the one that is neither written nor spoken about:

On Wednesday, 22 January 2025, the Avid Readers Forum organised a physical event to discuss Professor Ali Mazrui's groundbreaking lecture titled ‘The Black Woman and the Problem of Gender: An African Perspective’. Ruth Jebet, a final-year law student, moderated the session, and Ms Melissa Mungai, a lecturer at Kabarak University Law School, was the lead reader.

In a significant boost to its sports infrastructure, Kabarak University today unveiled a brand-new yard-roller tractor at the university's hockey pitch. This state-of-the-art equipment, dedicated by the university management, is poised to revolutionize the playing surface, bringing it to international standards. The unveiling occasion was attended by members of the university's management, sports staff, and enthusiastic hockey players.

The Directorate of Excellence in Learning and Teaching at Kabarak University commenced today with a grand launch at the University Auditorium. The event, attended by esteemed guests including Assessment experts Franklin Etyang' and John Ondiek from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) and faculty members from the School of Education, marks a significant step towards enhancing the quality of education delivered at the institution.
